The sixth month of Article Club is in the books! Thank you to Jim, Summer, Michele, Camille, Claire, Tyler, Elise, Jamie, Jennifer, Carina, Ram, Elise, Peter, and Kati for joining the discussions.
I really appreciated our discussion- I'm still thinking about the article, the limits of empathy, what it means that so many people are searching for themselves and a place to belong, and how optimistic we can be that this current moment might lead to change. Thanks everyone for such a powerful conversation.
Welcome, Claire and Jamie, to Article Club! — and thank you to everyone for the thoughtful discussion. You got me thinking about empathy vs. judgment and how it’s not an either-or. Also, I’ll keep considering Jim’s question: Why did Samantha join the alt-right instead of, say, a cricket club? Hope to see all (or at least many) of you next month!
I appreciated the authenticity of the group. I have participated in other groups Mark has organized but this one felt the most honest. Since many of the people in the group had a hard time being empathetic towards Samantha, I didn't feel alone in having those feelings about her story. It was also nice that people felt safe to share how they felt. I have never met any of the people who are part of the group, yet I feel like I know them because I see familiar faces every time.(Hi Carina, MVP of Article Club!) I look forward to next month's article because it is more light hearted and I know I can use some humor in my life now! Thanks Mark for holding these events every month and allowing people to discuss interesting articles.
