“And he will likely be re-elected by a large margin”… prescient indeed. I am not really in the mood to critique the thesis at this point. If the truth about the values of a large swath of Americans was unveiled in 2016, it was vaulted into the spotlight in 2024. That is enough to focus on for now.

I think fundamentally I disagree with the author. Education level was a more pronounced factor in determining vote than in the past. This is across economic and racial lines. So why did Kamala appeal more to college educated people? If I'm right and the big difference in Trump elections is his appeal to non-college educated voters then the author implies that non-college educated people are misogynistic, racist and full of hatred. The author and Democratic Party have a vision of America where climate change is mitigated, misogyny eliminated, racism ended, gender re-defined, and fascism stopped. Those are not necessarily ideas that resonate with high school educated voters. An America with clean air and water, affordable daycare and accessible health care, quality education, a friendly small business environment and high voter turnout (patriotism) is a vision that I think resonates more with all education groups. Besides, an America with all of those things would be in line with the author and Democrat's vision for this country. Trump and his hatred are not liked by most Americans. His approval ratings are very low and the more people hear him the lower they go. So, fundamentally I don't agree with the author's thesis.

That is my hot take.

Very dramatic, but we can’t afford to wallow as desk chair critics. For the first time in recent history, we need to learn how to create community where people don’t even know their neighbors and are still isolated in pandemic mode. We need to create book clubs to educate ourselves and each other to activism. & how to do it. We need to recognize that voting has never been enough and that civic responsibility demands grassroots organization. We need to quit polemicizing, roll up our sleeves, and get out there. Although compromise is the essence of democracy, we’re not even at the starting point of having a conversation. In short, grieve a minute and recover quickly, THERE’S WORK TO DO.

A great starting point is Naomi Klein’s NO IS NOT ENOUGH; Resisting Trump’s Shock Politics and Winning the World We Need, which offers solid recommendations for mobilization. It’s currently available free, if you have Kindle Unlimited. LET’S GET STARTED.

Oh Mark. This is Carol, Anne Nyffeler’s mom. While still living in our country, I am strategizing my own options for survival…. We have lived in Florida since 1984z. I wrote in a letter to the editor about a year ago that my state had been highjacked—and now my nation. Karma is a bitch, and when people get what they voted for it will NOT be pretty.

In Denmark they begin teaching Critical Thinking Skills in 1st grade… we MUST do this, as we have become a nation of easily sheep.

Stay strong, and keep writing—as I shall

How unfortunate the rest of America will be blessed by the same progressive Democrats that have run our once proud city of San Francisco into the ground. A missed opportunity.

I love this comment because I'm a huge fan of sarcasm. If I may ask, what is an example of a "progressive Democrat" policy that has run San Francisco into the ground? I ask not to start a fight but to better understand where the city went wrong.
