I’m read the militia article. It was excellent. I just gave a talk about militias to a group of school children in Clovis.

“Lions do not concern themselves with the opinions of men”

—sounds like a trope Trump would embrace, if he had more than a 5th grade handle on language. That it was spoken by a man who grossly lied about his military experience to wheedle other men into taking up arms against their country and fellow Americans is absolutely reprehensible. And it’s thinking like that which gifts people like educators Miles & Morath with the apparent gravitas to castigate children for laughing in school, or to dismiss librarians for wanting to inspire students to read. Or gives carte blanche to restaurant reservation scofflaws to make death threats when asked to cover the costs of their ghosting restaurateurs. Or allows men to dock women’s careers from $.90 per male-earned dollar to $.64 after bearing children. Or gives them pretense to assume they have a right to legislate women’s bodies. Each of this week’s articles expresses the same issue in various guises: that men assume they are lions over other men, in all businesses and careers, and over women in every area of life.

Thank the stars for one man who’s leaning forward to upend gender norms; his children are blessed. Lions EAT their offspring, and only the females HUNT.

Hi Mark, I loved the stay-at-home dads piece! I related to much of it and have two takeaways. One, when men are threatened by their wife making more than them, they cannot also think of themselves as feminists. Also, I like the idea that we need to honor and celebrate domestic work more - no matter which parent is doing it.
