Hi! I'm Carina and I live in Boston, MA. A former colleague told me about Article Club (back in like 2018?!) and I've been here ever since! I don't usually read long-form articles, and AC has helped encourage me out of my comfort zone :)

Hi Carina! Thank you for reading the newsletter all these years. (It was 2017, I checked!) I’m happy that AC helps get you to read longform pieces. Your contributions to our discussions are always very thoughtful — thank you.

I'm Barry, I grew up in South Africa and currently live in Toronto, Canada.

I don't recall how I found Article Club but I'm very glad I did; it's one of the finest examples of quality content aggregation I have encountered. This is thanks to Mark's thoughtful curation of always engaging, sometimes challenging and often inspiring articles from sources I am frequently unfamiliar with. I don't know how he does it but I'm thankful for it.

Thank you for your kind words and for reading my newsletter. You have pushed me to keep looking for new publications — and to expand what I’m looking for in articles. I’m very grateful.

Hi! I’m Fiona, I grew up in London, England and have been living in Salt Lake City, Utah for almost 12 years. Article Club was recommended to me by a friend and fellow teacher. I really appreciate the range of articles on offer each week and would welcome any stories on the topics of AI and climate change. :)

Great to meet you, Fiona! I’m happy that a friend recommended you to AC, and I’ll be looking for great articles on AI and climate change for you. (One about AI that I liked: “HUMAN_FALLBACK,” by Laura Preston. Have you read it?)

Hello. I'm Rebecca. I live in Oakland and currently work with Mark. I love long-form articles and especially love it when preselected pieces arrive in my inbox each week. About 20 years ago, I lived for a short time in Harlem (certainly part of the early-2000s gentrification wave) so I am very interested to read that piece. I am also here for the pet pictures; however, the "submit a pet photo" link isn't in the most recent newsletter, so I would like to file a complaint. ;) In other parts of my life I do things related to theater and am fascinated by learning about urban planning and placemaking.

Complaint noted! Here’s where you can recommend your pet: hltr.co/pets.

Also, I’d love to hear more about your interests in urban planning and placemaking. Maybe we could chat about it at HHH next Thursday? https://hltr.co/hhh22a

Hey I'm Ryn, from WA-recently moved back to the US after 7 years in South Korea. I honestly can't remember where I found this subscription but I know I joined to diversify the voices and articles I pay attention to. I love learning and as I find myself looking for work, I am more and more interested in learning about new topics, culture, systemic change, and just generally the direction that the world/society is going. Nice to meet y'all!

Hi! I'm Kati and I live in Fremont, CA. I met Mark back when he taught here at Irvington High School (I'm c/o 2000, heck yeah!). I subscribed to Article Club because I, well, I love articles and learning new things. I like to read about culture, food justice, systemic change related to food, infrastructure, civil rights, and the environment.

Class of 2000 was the best! (Should there be a 25-year We the People reunion next summer? I think so.) Anyway, thank you for reading AC for so long and for participating in the discussions. I’ll have to be on the lookout for more food justice articles (and more pieces on urban foraging).

Roll call: My name is Chris and I’m writing in from Oakland, CA! I subscribed because I value longform reading and thoughtful conversation. And Article Club does this in a community-centered way. I have a wide range of interests when it comes to my reading. For example, I just finished Chain Gang Allstars and The Wager. I’m currently reading Unattended Sorrow by Stephen Levine and On Writing Well by William Zinsser. Writers I love include George Saunders, Junot Diaz, and Ocean Vuong.

Thank you as always for all your support, Mark! I liked Boston, too — except I was there only a year. Too cold for my California blood. Hope you’re doing well.
