Many of Mark’s students belong to groups routinely marginalized in the labor force. So-called minorities are often neglected post-admission by selective colleges, too. Privilege can’t counter this problem; colleges can take the $$$$$ and yet have ways to deliver a worse education than can be had at a diverse state school, an issue to consider re: college spending. Post-secondary education is a nationwide scandal rooted in gross income inequality, which is also a product of racism; if we don’t manage it, we will fall still further behind other countries. Many STEM jobs go to those with H-1B visas (to keep wages low--and most often to minorities!) while demand outstrips supply because the cap on visas is not keeping up with growth. It’s wasteful to import highly skilled labor when we have vast resources right here, if only the playing field were level.
I'm just here to say I feel called out....NYU full price for a humanities degree......hahaha
Haha sorry for calling you out!
