Mark,

By way of introduction, I limit myself to $20 on substack subscriptions. I was at $18, and trying to decide whether to break my dollar rule, or drop one of my other subscriptions in order to subscribe to Highlighter. I "paused" the other subscription. That author doesn't seem to know/care that when people support you financially, it's only polite to interact with them occasionally. I don't expect an author to respond to every post, by every subscriber, every time. But once in awhile? It seems like we, the subscribers, are too un-read, too un-sophisticated (too un--washed?) for him to engage with, except in his bank account.

You can imagine how astounded I am at the amount of your interaction in this forum! Please chalk the following question up to the rudeness of a newbie, but: Are you a bot?

I’m not a bot! 😀 Seriously, I value every single reader (paid or free) at The Highlighter Article Club. My hope is that we read, annotate, and discuss these great pieces on race, education, and culture – and by so doing, connect with other kind, thoughtful people. Anna, I’m really happy that you found me and us, and I look forward to our discussion on 1/29.

Mark,

I just subscribed, happily, to Highlighter. I'm also a dead-tree reader. When I try to print page 4, the photo obliterates the text. What am I doiing wrong?

So great to have you, Anna! Thank you for joining and trying out The Highlighter Article Club. Looking forward to seeing you at the discussion.

Many of us prefer reading on paper!

Here’s a link that I think you will be able to print out. Let me know how it goes!
