Our 1619 Project book club is going to be good
...and there’s still time to sign up (until this Wednesday, Jan. 12)
Hi there! Last week I announced a new endeavor at Article Club, one where we’d read and discuss The 1619 Project, created by Nikole Hannah-Jones, as part of a six-month book club, beginning next month.
The response has been strong. Already, 27 of you have said yes.
I’m elated and looking forward to discussing this book with you. Also I want to make sure that everyone who’s interested can join. If you’d like to participate, please sign up by this Wednesday, Jan. 12. All you need to do is leave a comment below.
Later this week – once everyone has had a chance to join – we’ll start talking about what this book club is going to look and feel like. I have some ideas for how I think things should go, given what we’ve learned over the past two years at Article Club.
But this is a new thing, and it’s our new thing, and I want to make sure this experience is an inclusive and welcoming one for all of us. So please do not hesitate to share your ideas and suggestions.
We have much to talk about, including…
What do we want to get out of this experience?
How can we build community and support each other?
What about the small discussion groups? How should they be formed? Should we stay in our groups the whole time, or should we mix things up in the middle?
And maybe most important: When’s the best time to meet?
If you have questions or other topics you want to talk about, share them! In the meantime, if you’re in, I recommend that you get a copy of the book. We’ll start reading Feb. 1. And please share this post if you’d like your friends to join. See you soon!
Also, good news: A generous Article Clubber is offering two gift subscriptions for anyone interested in joining the book club. Reply to me directly (i.e., don’t leave a message here) if this is you!
How do I join this book club?
