Let’s reflect: “The Roe Baby,” by Joshua Prager
Plus: There are changes coming to Article Club!
Sunday’s discussion of Joshua Prager’s “The Roe Baby” was one of the deepest we’ve ever had at Article Club. Thank you to facilitator Gail and participants Bonnie, Wayne, Abde, Nicole, Summer, Carina, Debra, and Telannia. Also, congratulations to Nicole for winning the raffle!
For me, what made Sunday special was…
how we listened compassionately to each other
how we looked for and noticed nuance
how we’ve built a caring and thoughtful reading community
What did you appreciate? If you’d like to share, please leave a comment!
And now for some news…
After 2 ½ years and 27 articles, I’m excited to announce that there will be some changes to Article Club beginning this Thursday.
Article Club will be merging with The Highlighter, my other reading-related newsletter, to become one publication. Maybe you can guess the new name? Yep, you got it: It’s The Highlighter Article Club. 😀
My goals will remain the same:
to discuss the best longform nonfiction articles on race, education, and culture
to encourage us to read, reflect, and connect more deeply
to build a kind, compassionate, thoughtful reading community
We’ll still focus on one great article a month. We’ll still have discussions on the last Sundays of the month. We’ll still listen to interviews with authors. We’ll still annotate the articles as a group. We’ll still raffle off books and laugh when Summer wins again.
But a few things will be different:
You’ll receive more thought-provoking articles to read, reflect on, and discuss.
There will be more ways to engage with ideas and connect with fellow readers.
You’ll get issues on Thursdays instead of on weekends.
Here’s the best news: You don’t have to do anything. There won’t be any clicking or resubscribing or filling out a survey. You’ll receive your next issue this Thursday at 9:10 am PT. Be on the lookout for it!
Loyal readers, thank you. I started The Highlighter in 2015 and Article Club in 2020 because I believe that our world might be a slightly better place if we read more good things and then talked about them with other thoughtful people. I’m really grateful to have you as a subscriber. And I look forward to our next steps.
See you very soon!
I really appreciated both the small group and large group discussion. Today I received an email from my employer that included this link: https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2022/06/how-roe-got-to-be-roe/?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Daily%20Gazette%2020220629%20(1) - which we talked about during the discussion! Grateful to you all.
I thought it was great that three of the women felt comfortable telling our stories.
