Joan Cone is a retired English teacher who taught for more than 40 years. In the middle of her career, she changed the way she taught her class in an attempt to support young people to love reading. Ms. Cone wrote about that transformation in her article, “Appearing Acts,” published in the Harvard Educational Review. The piece was featured in The Highlighter #137 as well as in Podcast #34. In this episode, Ms. Cone emphasizes that teachers need to keep trying new ideas, to remain in an inquiry stance, and to listen to their students.
