1619: It’s Discussion Week!
Looking forward to seeing you this Saturday at 2 pm PT to discuss Chapters 7-9
Welcome to Week 14! This week, we’re getting ready for our fourth discussion coming up this Saturday, May 7, 2:00 - 3:30 pm PT. (For your reference: Here’s our reading schedule, which I encourage you to save, bookmark, or print out).
Here are a few ways to prepare for this Saturday:
Catch up on Chapters 7-9 if necessary
For each essay: Identify one topic, question, or passage you’d like to explore
Think about: What are connections you see among all three essays?
Reflect on what you learned and why it is meaningful to you
I’m looking forward to seeing you soon! Here’s the plan for this Saturday:
We’ll convene all together for a brief introduction. It’ll be short like last time, so we have more time for discussion.
Then we’ll break off into our small conversation groups. We’ll have 60-65 minutes to discuss the three essays. Note: I’ll be reaching out to facilitators, and we’ll be thinking of ways to best use our time together.
At the end of the session, we’ll come back as a whole book club for individual reflection and group celebrations.
A note about small groupings: Most of you said you’d like to stay with your group. A few of you said you would be open to switching groups. A few of you said you wanted to switch groups. I’m still working on finalizing groups and will let you know later this week.
That’s about it for now! I look forward to seeing you this Saturday at 2 pm PT. (The Zoom link is in your calendar invitation. I’ll be logging on 10 minutes early.) All right, let’s head to next steps.
If you haven’t RSVPd yet to the calendar invite: Please do!
Optionally: What are your hopes for this week’s discussion? In the comments, say hi to your groupmates and share your hopes for our fourth meeting.
See you in a few days! Reach out if you have any questions. All you need to do is hit reply. Happy reading.
