1619 Book Club: Let’s do this!
Our final reading and discussion schedule, plus next steps
At long last, we’re about to launch our 1619 Project book club, beginning next Tuesday, February 1. Are you ready?
Thank you very much for filling out the survey. I learned a lot. Namely:
you’re kind and thoughtful
you want to do this book club
there’s going to be a lot of birthday and wedding and travel joy this summer!
After crunching the numbers, one reading and discussion schedule emerged with significantly fewer conflicts. (33 of 35 of you said you could attend at least 6 of the 7 meetings – which is ideal in order to build community and learn together.) Therefore, I’d like to go ahead with Schedule #2 – with discussions mostly on the second Sunday of the month.
There’s one change to note. Several of you spotted that Feb. 13 is the Super Bowl (arguably a holiday), so let’s meet on Saturday, Feb. 12 instead.
All right. The time has come! Here are next steps:
If this sounds good to you: Great! You don’t need to do anything. I’ll send you calendar invites and your Week 1 email next Tuesday. If you like, feel free to get started on the preface, “Origins,” by Nikole Hannah-Jones.
If this doesn’t sound good to you: That’s OK! Hit reply and let me know.
If you’re on the fence and can’t decide: That’s OK! Take your time to think things over. Hit reply and let me know. If you have questions, please ask.
That’s it for now. Thank you again for your interest. I’m looking forward to getting started. See you next Tuesday when we launch the book club. Happy reading!
Wohooo excited!
Yay! excited to get started! Thanks so much Mark for your clear communication
